And don't forget to put a little damping on the floor end of the stock against the barrel there to damp the resonance and keep the barrel from whipping so much. Way back in the early 70s or late 60s, I went through that same procedure with the model 70 30-on-6, and I was able at 100 yards to get the group down from like 3 inches to about 0.58 inches. inches.
