So while we have all these cases of intense winds doing catastrophic destruction, you have these fragile survival cases, right? So in the midst of all this, something very very fragile survives, and this is often due to the unpredictable nature of the multivortex structure of the tornado. So tornadoes aren't just one big swirling column of air. They might look like that, but when you you pick them apart there's lots of little sub vortices so these are smaller vortices dancing around everything is just blended in by the vapor cloud that usually enshrouds the tornado right the pressure drops you hit the saturated vapor pressure and then you know the tornado forms it becomes translucent or just fully visible and all these smaller circulations inside become hidden. So what happens is you'll have in some cases you'll have unbroken glassware and dishes they've been found standing on shelves inside houses where walls are blown away you'll just have you know cabinet there with everything in place. A mirror or frame photograph was reported to be hanging perfectly straight on a wall that was otherwise heavily damaged and this is with the Gerald Texas tornado so go figure the mirror was fine everything else was destroyed. Joplin Missouri in 2011 I was there for that tornado a survivor found her fine dining where inside its storage bag completely unharmed in the middle of her houses total rubble pile and another case a plastic lawn chair I was left perfectly untouched in the yard where the adjacent house was completely leveled by a tornado so you have some some fascinating anomalies where for whatever reason the winds just my guess is the whatever the object is it's protected initially by the house one of these smaller sub vortices comes by rips everything apart and in just its path and just where you know you're on the backside of the flow where the winds are the weakest your silverware your cabinet a mirror a glass plate whatever that's sitting there and it just escapes the wind and then the tornadoes over and it's still there unbroken
