And dogs, when wolves are becoming domesticated and slowly evolving into dogs, develop shorter snouts. Shorter snouts than dogs, they're probably a combination of factors, adapting to different environments and different types of food. As well, once dogs started relying on humans, they didn't require the same hunting abilities as wolves. They no longer needed really large teeth or a longer snout that would help with tracking by scent. So, a longer muzzle translates into having more scent receptors. So, as a dog became more reliant on humans, that trait wasn't necessary anymore. So, the dogs evolved in with a shorter... And it appears that raccoons are now following suit.
