And another major factor in the habitability of a world is oxygen. In a planet's early stages, oxygen controls what's called oxygen fugacity. This helps determine a third factor, the size of a planet's core. The amount of iron and iron oxide, iron oxide rust, I'm just thinking of my car right now, is crucial for a planet's early core. Pure iron will fall towards the core, building a bigger one. iron oxide will deposit in the mantle which decreases core size. Core building is an essential factor for habitability because it controls the amount of protective magnetic field produced to develop the planet. Field protects elements of life on the surface from strong solar radiation.
