The dog's footprints also present something else of great interest. It seems that they must have survived the eruption. North Asia and Nebraska at one time had an environment similar to the African plains, and researchers don't know how the dogs were surviving at the time, but they might have fed on the buried rhinos right after the devastating volcanic eruption. And these dogs, they lived during the middle of the late myocene epoch, which means that they lived for about 10.7 million years ago, and the animals would have attained a length of about 1.5 meters, height about 75 centimeters, weight about 60 kilograms, that translates into 132 pounds, which would have made it about the size of a modern wolf much more powerful. In fact, some of these ancient dogs of this particular species were probably bigger than modern wolves depending on the region they were found.
