The experiment was repeated on another group of mice, not exposed to long periods of stress, and it's found that lowering Connexin 43 set off depressive and anxiety-like behaviors and reduced ATP levels. The conclusion was that by disrupting ATP release could influence emotional behavior. Once Connexin 43 was restored in the Kipple campus, the mice showed marked improvements in the behavior. And this is the first direct evidence that deficient ADP release in the hippocampus drives depression and anxiety-like behaviors. So another in the box here for research into mental health. Just dropping.
