And most biologists, if you were to ask them, they would agree that to be considered alive, a thing has to be able to extract energy from the environment, it has to be able to maintain itself in some way, carry some kind of metabolism, get rid of waste, and have a boundary. Its boundary needs to be separated from the environment. And it needs to be able to reproduce or replicate itself. The virus exhibits some of those characteristics and could be considered maybe half alive at best. Stopping.
