And the study was published November 5th in the journal Nature, and the team reported that lower levels of a transcription factor called PU-1 and higher expression of a receptor, that CD28, could help reduce brain inflammation. And these specialized microglia also show the buildup of amyloid plaques and toxic proteins that they protect from. Discovery of PU-1 and CD28 relationship gives a new view to understanding how microglia can protect the brain and strengthens the idea that using microglial activity by way of specific therapy could change the course of Alzheimer's therapies.
