As they were painting, in order to keep their brushes, the tip of the brushes sharp to a fine point, they would put the brush in between their lips, the brush that had radium on it, and twirl it to get a point on it. Well, they were now introducing radium into their bodies at that point. Actually the factories, the places they were working were culpable, I would think, for what happened to them, because they actually insisted the women do it that way, because at first some of the women were using wet rags to twirl it, and some of these companies were thinking, well yes, it's using up too much water and taking up too much time doing that, it's quicker if you just use your lips. So that's what the women were doing. After work, on dark nights, they'd be leaving the factory, and their teeth and their lips would be glowing, in fact after a period of time, just dropping.
