The research is based on an incredible property of reality itself. The cutting edge theory suggests that even space and time aren't fundamental, as a part of gravity. They come about, space and time, they come about from something very deep, pure information. And this information exists in what's called platonic realm, which is a mathematical foundation. What is required is referred to as a non-algorithmic understanding, and computers follow step-by-step processes regardless of their complexity. Some truths can only be incurred through non-algorithmic understanding. This doesn't follow logical, sequential steps. They can't be proven through computational steps. The researchers have demonstrated that it's impossible to describe all of reality by computational explanations of quantum gravity. Reality requires non-algorithmic understanding, which is more basic than space time itself.
