Super-agers, they have the innate ability to retain sharp minds well into their 80s. And there was a 25-year study that shows what's so special about their neurology. And this is research from Northwestern University. This is the first part of the research. The study showed that the brains of super-agers have the unique ability to resist the buildup of Alzheimer's related clumps of protein and tangles. And these people also have a higher concentration of a specific type of neuron in a critical part of the brain and show less inflammatory white matter activity. Super-agers tend to have memories rivaling those in their early 50s and capable of remembering 9 out of 15 words. Strangely, kind of counter-intuitive here, but super-agers don't necessarily lead healthier lives. Some drink and smoke on a regular basis. And this suggests then that some biological components are at play here.
