Well, this is Ka-90HV. As you can guess, I wasn't there at the rain or shine. I'd actually have to have a ride to get there, and I didn't. Let's see, but I stayed at home in my cozy little place and wrote some more scenes that were missing out of the beginning of Mindbender's Gambit. And this is the point where when you discuss a scene, I like to talk through things because talking through them, I can now see things like where people are in the room and that kind of thing. I don't know. It must be what little there is of my theater background, but I can't write a scene unless it's blocked. I have to know what the room looks like. I have to know where the furniture is in the room. I have to know where people are sitting. I have to be able to turn the room around in my head and see it from different viewpoints, and then I can write the scene. And all of this means that I get on the phone with the poor people who are the people that I can talk to about the details of the scene. And in at least some cases, the answer to various questions depends on whether the person is male or female. And it's interesting how different people see things. And I only care because, of course, I want males and females to read my stuff. And I've got at least one scene where the men are going to go, What's the big deal? And the females are going to go, Oh, Lord, I get it. And I'm sitting here going, Wow, what am I going to do to redeem this one? Anyway, that was my major occupation for today, while the rest of you were all having fun at the rain or shine. Anyway, 73, 33, 88. Thanks, Bill, for doing the Nes. Always good to hear you. Thanks to all of you for listening to me patter on. You're all great. This is KA9EHV back to Nes. And thanks for checking in tonight and reporting in on your writing adventures. What you report is strange. I mean, you basically said you have to sort of furnish your mental image of the scene. I'm not a writer at all. I know I'm not an artist at all, but it certainly does make sense to me. You know, if you're going to imagine these goings on, you would want to put them in a place and people and yeah, that's great. Nice to hear a little bit about how an artist's author's head works. Very interesting. Always interesting, that kind of stuff. Very good, Ann. Thank you. Let's move on and chat with Robert, KK7ZRY. Come ahead. Hello, everybody, on this rainy, rainy, rainy night. There's always one night, I think, of the autumn where every leaf is blown off the trees and this might be it. It is blustery. I actually have had a successful antenna experiment. I've had lots of unsuccessful antenna experiments. But I've got a 2x4 mag mount and it usually sits on top of a file cabinet, but you know, you can't carry a file cabinet with you wherever you want to go. So how to make it portable and there's the cookie sheet thing and I thought, yeah, but I don't want to carry a cookie sheet with me. So I thought about aluminum window screen, which you can roll up or fold up or do whatever you want. And it's three feet wide, so it's close to being a halfway length, which is pretty cool. So a mag mount antenna sitting on a wooden kitchen table, SWR of about 2.8. You put it on a cookie sheet and the SWR is about 2.2. And you put it on a three foot wide piece of aluminum window screen and it drops down to about 1.4. So I think that's a pretty successful experiment. Now I've got a portable solution to carrying this antenna around. So always nice to end the day on a high note. We were out and about today. We went down to Pier 66 and saw that Norwegian tall ship, which is gorgeous, and a Norwegian crew doing ocean science, which is really exciting to hear about. It didn't look like the old British Navy ships with 300 sweaty people hanging in hammocks 16 inches apart. It was very polished and teak and varnish. And there was a room, a Norwegian I think said, radio room, but it was locked so it couldn't go in there. Yes, that's my report. Happy experiment. Happy day. Back to Nat, KK7ZRY. KK7ZRY, Robert, thank you. That's a very interesting report. Yeah, I wanted to get down to that ship. I did sign up to get on it and they said the wait list could get on. I really wanted to go, but it overlapped with the Rainier shine. So I had to do my ham duty. But yeah, I would have loved to have done that. It looks like a beautiful ship, just beautiful. And congratulations on that experiment. That is really interesting how well aluminum window screen works. It also brings to mind that people are using that Faraday cloth that you can buy on the usual websites, which I assume is the same kind of thing, maybe even a little more efficient. It's probably copper, I assume. But that's a great idea. Aluminum window screen, who knew? Yeah. And Autumn Leaves, yeah, they all came down to that. I live up on Queen Anne near the Queen Anne Boulevard that has all those horse chestnut trees. Boy, you don't want to park your car under horse chestnut trees on a night like this. You get dense. It's no fun at all. All right. We had an I.O. from Lisa, KK7BYJ. And we spoke to John already with his power out on Kamado. And so we're going to talk to Jane up on Capitol Hill, where I bet there's power tonight and people tonight, even on a windy night. What's the human condition up on the streets of Capitol Hill, Joan? KX2CW, come ahead.
