A huge genetic study that has found that by naturally lowering cholesterol seems to have a dramatic effect on reducing dementia. And high cholesterol, it can contribute to dementia by way of atherosclerosis and even small blood clot formation. And it seems that some people, the genetic variant that affects proteins targeted by cholesterol, these cholesterol lowering drugs like stannicins and another one, ezetimine, I believe it is. And by analyzing people with these variants and then comparing them with people without the variants, scientists found out a clear difference in the risk of dementia. Even with a small decrease in cholesterol lowering genetic variant, this was associated with about an 80% reduction in dementia risk for certain drug related genetic targets. And a study result suggested that by keeping cholesterol low, it may protect against dementia. And it hasn't been confirmed yet that the cholesterol lowering drugs directly lower or prevent their disease. It's more of a product of just lowering the cholesterol.
