In the molar announcement, she said that the crop will bring the mole back to life, and the company's co-founder and CEO said scientists will return it back to the ecosystem. So to retrace the giant molar, scientists will extract DNA from the remaining bones of all nine species and compare it to DNA of living birds. Researchers will then be able to pinpoint the specific genetic characteristics and make those changes in the genomes of either a emu or a cinnamid. These are actually the two closest living realms of the molar. It makes sense to use either one of those templates from which to align DNA of the bird. A lot of work on DNA shows that the cinnamids are a less specific species than the molar. And the emus are pretty real close to all of them as well.
