I think back in the 80s I bought an ICOM 290A. It was inexpensive for radio back then. It probably cost about $300, $400. I put it in my truck and on the way to work, you know, I was listening on the, probably two meters, could have been 220 because I had a, I don't know if I had 220 or not, but yeah, I listened for meteor scanner and you hear people, you know, they're in Chicago or something. You know, waiting on two meters so you know you can get that and it worked good on sideband. That's why I bought the radio because it had the sideband thing here. You do mountaintop and work here and just playing around for having some fun with the DX thing on the VHF. That was a big, big reasonable radio and it worked good. You know, I put it home and it had like a, I don't know, maybe a 14-element beam up on top of the tower at 70 feet. I was playing around with it. Wow, you know, that thing is really, it was amazing what you can do on sideband on VHF.
