The team looked at fossilized teeth. They looked at the teeth of 51 hominids. And these hominids were located across Africa, Asia, and even Europe. And the samples included both modern and archaic humans, ancient humans, like Neanderthals. And even some extinct great apes, like the Gigantopithecus. And lead traces were in 73% of the fossil study with 71% of modern and archaic human samples showing contamination. And fossils of Gigantopithecus, dating back to 1.8 million years, revealed the highest levels of acute contamination.
