Because like you say, I'd be curious to know how they're doing that because you don't even have to connect to iCloud. Even the factory reset process makes you connect. If you don't, you can't get past it. You can't register or activate the phone. It's going to say, log in information required even after a factory reset. You can't use it. I've got an old iPhone 4S here that still works. It was mine back in the day. I just forgot the password to it and I factory resetted it. I couldn't remember the password to the iCloud account because that was relatively new back then. I to this day can't reactivate or reuse that phone. I'd be curious to know how I can make that work even as a music player. I can't make it work as anything. I know about removing partitions, flashing custom OS, rooting, jail breaks.
