Perhaps even more intriguing, when you think about the southern torids are composed of older debris, while the northern torids are linked to an asteroid, which is relatively recent, 2004, TG10, believed to be the fragment of the same ancient parent comet. It's like Anki, proto-Anki, imagine splits up, and now you end up with these two different streams. Kind of cool. I did some research and it sounds like scientists in the know that have modeled this stuff, they believe that breakup occurred between 10 and 20,000 years ago. When you're out there watching the torids, you're looking at remnants of a cosmic breakup.
