So, as we roll into November, keep your eyes on the night sky because the torrid meteor showers are coming. They unfold in two waves. You've got the southern torids, which peak around November 4th, and the northern torids, which follow up about a week after that, peaking around November 12th. That's not to say you couldn't see stuff even in October relative to those two streams. The torids are known not for speed, but for being slow and sometimes very bright meteors producing brilliant fireballs at times. So one of my favorite occurrences was a fireball that was very likely a torrid. I suppose it could have been a sporadic, but the timing was right. So these things are visible throughout October and November, and while they may not be as fast and impressive as the Perseids or the Geminids, they can often be more dramatic. So gear up and maybe this time of year, at least in the United States, this is a great time of year to be outside at night. So it's not cold anyplace really. So get out there and enjoy it.
