I've not done it myself, but I've heard of many people traveling just tossing a wire out of the window. In a random wire, there is a technical definition of it, but I'll just use the definition and say it's a wire. It can have a more technical connotation that most people ignore. In my kit, one of the antennas that I have that a lot of people use, just because it's very small and convenient, is an AX1 Elecraft antenna, which is just a QRP version of a base loaded quarter wave. I myself cut custom tuned counter-posed wires for certain bands and frequencies. You don't need to do that, but I love the secret of little power operating folks is to have a physically tuned antenna. I like to do that, to where if I didn't even have the automatic antenna, I wouldn't be able to match her. I'd be okay. But anyway, blah, blah. My favorite portable antenna has become my MFJ2289. It's a ginormous telescoping feed dipole. For 20 meters, you don't need any oils, no counter-poise. But it takes up a lot of room, plus the MFJ is out of stock and there will never be any more. You might find one used, but anyway, what else? Oh yeah, traveling. I've been to Montana. I've been to Mississippi only once and I was shocked to see chain gangs. That's a possible future economy. I have a disenfranchised series doing the work. I'm not sure if I've been to San Diego. I don't think I have. Anyway, take care Joe. Good to hear from you.
