Researchers tested these car NK cells in mice with human-like immune systems, and these mice also were also injected with lymphoma cells. So mice that received the car NK cells in the new construct, they retained the NK cell population at least three weeks, and the NK cells were able to nearly eliminate all the cancer cells in the mice. In mice that received either NK cells with no genetic modifications or NK cells with only the CAR gene, the host immune cells attacked the donor NK cell, and these mice the NK cells died out within two weeks and the cancer spread unchecked and the mice eventually died.
