There are hundreds of ghost repeaters that people have claimed a channel pair, but their repeater is never in use. Maybe they're saving it for the apocalypse, but yeah, there are a lot of disused channels. And it's a problem in the Pacific Northwest because everyone and their brother and their cousin and their grandpa and their granddaughter have repeaters everywhere. The lion's share of them are never on the air. So it's using up the resource. Two solutions, one would be to de-rate a bunch of ghost repeaters and free up those channels. Or another politically less difficult course would be to simply change the channelization and have all new repeaters using narrow band. In principle that could double the number of repeater pairs available. But it's somebody else's project, not mine. I'm perfectly willing to cooperate with narrow band. But anyway, I also would be perfectly willing to live on a shack on top of a mountain with a 90 foot tower with an antenna on top of it. I'd love to do that, but the opportunity doesn't present itself. Alright, moving right along we have Mike, KG7VEU, who is an electronics technician and is familiar with the radio and electrical engineering. And probably has some thoughts on things on this very topic. Mike, go ahead with your thoughts.
