I'm thinking of a term, I think it was Winlink is the one I was thinking of I used to use. But wow look at here. I just looked it up on chat GPT. They never died. They just moved from Dialog to SSH and became a niche hobby. It's an active board, popular software, lots of old school networks still around. Findo Net. I think Findo was a chat program wasn't it? Quick start in two minutes. Grab a client, install sync term, pick a board, browse the Telnet BBS guide, connect to play, log in, hit message base and try the door games. Packet BBS still exist really? Winlink is alive and busy? Wow that's cool. Oh yeah it is amazing the stuff that's still there. Have you ever seen the BBS documentary? It was produced I can't remember the guy who does it. He has a YouTube channel but it's a really good documentary. A lot of these programs are still being developed. Guys are still writing new door games. There's one Absence BBS is still running on an old Commodore. It's a lot of the guys with the retro hardware doing it. It's cool shit dude. You can even do it with a built Wi-Fi modems for retro computers that can't get on the internet. So it connects to your serial port and then you send it standard modem plans the old AT commands and it connects to your Wi-Fi and then out to the BBS. It's really really cool.
