In this new study, the team used computer simulations to model how much energy this cosmic radiation might have to deliver to some surface ice, and even water on Mars and worlds like Europa. And they found that some energetic particles could make it below the surface. Once there, the rays would break apart, would actually break apart, shatter the existing water molecules, releasing electrons, and that process called electrolysis. This process potentially could potentially generate enough energy to support it, maybe some kickstart to life.
