Well, let's see I Wrote a few more chapters in this monstrosity that seems to have afflicted me I I'm having this weird experience of dreaming about my books again. This actually hasn't happened in a number of years and The other delightful thing that I have discovered is a really devious minded military consultant who was an NCO in the army and we were talking about Punishment duty and he said, you know, it has to be mean utterly meaningless but demanding of some attention And and the examples the two examples he gave is he said you might be on a ship and asked to guard a bolt a particular bolt in the wall and You would be told to keep people from going any nearer than two feet to this bolt Thus causing irritation to other people getting through the passageway and I can imagine all kinds of things to do with that one and the other one he mentioned was Mopping the parade ground in the pouring rain trying to get it dry in the pouring rain, which of course is meaningless the classic KP of course is kitchen patrol peeling potatoes and scrubbing sinks with toothbrushes or toothpicks It's stuff like this and What it does is is it in theory gives the recruit a chance to think things through and so anyway That was the delightful conversation that I had with him yesterday and I'm busy Inculcating these things into the story of this poor 16 year old who in order to escape his dad's food truck Which was what followed the restaurant they used to have when there were two parents He joined the Navy which promptly sent him to cooking and logistic school Because of course he has cooking and restaurant experience Yes, indeed anyway so I'm having fun with that story and Playing my little patriotic songs and other songs. Oh Hello Let me turn down that Talk back now see it's still plainly audible to me in the room. But you know, I I Have a figure-eight microphone I'm talking into and I had to position all this time. I've been positioning had been positioning the Talk back monitor receiver speaker in the null plane And You're supposed to hear it. Yeah Jack could still hear it somehow and I listening carefully and I thought you know What's happening is the microphone is picking off the reflection of that speaker on the wall behind me So I put a large piece of thick sound absorbing foam on the wall So that the microphone I can hear the talkback speaker, but the the microphone can't because the null plane and the speakers position in the null plane but the microphone still can't hear it because I have now put some thick foam on the wall behind me for a large piece to dampen the reflection so no longer audible oh and the duties yes well you know when I had temporary duty in the Navy I twice skipped out on pointless you know gratuitously cruel things because I could type so my TDY it'll call it TDY the Navy but I I called will call it TDY because I had previously been in the Army but you know I'd be on a temporary assignment you know in between permanent duty assignments and they realized that I had administrative experience and could type this is I always in little seven November 60-year mindless located in Shelton Washington
