You can turn that radio into a frequency analyzer. You can monitor HF with it, including SSB. Granted, you'd probably want to put a long wire on there for best results. I think you can monitor everything from 160 m right on up to almost a 1 GHz or 1.3 GHz, something like that. It's a wide open receiver after the first custom firmware. It also, you can receive air band on it, the VHF air band on AM, which is cool. It will switch to AM when you need to. You can also switch the mode yourself, AM, FM, SSB. They're all there and just a great radio all around. I love the display on it. It's got nice clear audio. It's loud. I can't say enough good things about the K5. Don't get it twisted. You're not looking for the UV5. That's both. You're looking for the Kwanchang UVK5. That's a different radio. I think in brackets it has the number 8 in the model number. It's like the Kwanchang UVK5 in brackets 8 and close bracket. That's the one you're going to want. Once you flash the custom firmware, man, that radio is fun. It adds so much to it. It completely changes the way your display looks. It gives you all kinds of ham radio related features. It's just an all around good radio. That's the one I'd recommend. Not to mention it charges with USB-C even though it does come with a drop in charging cradle, which I hate on radios. I think we should have done away with that a long time ago because they're proprietary. Let me reset.
