The AC-12 skull had been reconstructed and glued together in 1970, so the researchers had to take it apart to properly measure the skull fragments. And they chose to do this non-destructively by performing CT scans of the skull and then they just virtually separated the bones. Then the researchers digitally reconstructed the skull in four ways and used a technique called geometric morphometrics, which quantifies the biological shape of the bone to compare the virtual reconstruction to the skull from around the world. Stopping. Beep.
