Body modification, including cranial shaping, was one of the many strategies used by past societies that can communicate identity and even status. There was this report that came out about this. There's a co-author, Irene Dorie, she's a bioarchaeologist at the University of London doing this new research. In this new study published by Durya, the journal of science and research and analysis, it's called, from the account Irene Conk, a cave, the upper Paleolithic site in the northwestern coast of Italy, between about 12,900 and 11,000 to 700 years ago, hunter-gatherers used the cave to bury their dead. In the 1940s, archaeologists found dozens of human skeletons at that site. Most were arranged after death in an ancient ritual. One pincus skull of an adult male, and they just named it AC 112, was discovered in a niche on top of another burial.
