was the only living human who had just happened not to be on planet Earth. The sleeping cosmonaut was none other than Garamond Teetoff aboard the Vostok II. And he was living through the first full day in space. And when I say that, I do not mean only his first day in space. I mean literally the first day in space for anyone, ever. Only four months earlier Teetoff had stood ready as a standby for Yuri Gagarin. Gagarin was chosen to become the first human in space. On April 12th 1961 he was. That said, you know, that was an amazing enough milestone. We're all familiar with cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. His name is still very well known today.
