My old keyer was a Kia Soul 2013. I didn't mind putting holes in the roof, so I drilled holes freely and had a couple of different antenna mounts up there, NMO mounts. I just used a 3 quarter inch drill. Actually, I used one of those step drills that you get at Harbor Freight Tool. It works really, really well if you're going through the sheet metal. On this new car, I wanted to avoid putting holes in the roof, not because I mind holes in the roof, but because after you get the hole in the roof, then you've got to go through the whole routine of trying to route the cable. You've got to remove the headliner and put it back in. On the old car, I was always too lazy to actually put it back together, so it looked pretty chunky on the inside with things kind of ripped apart. On this one, I decided, okay, I want to avoid all that, so what I'm going to do is to lip mount. I'm going to put it on the back edge of the hood. You raise the hood, and where the back is, like by the windshield wipers, there's a mount that you can put on the edge and then run the wire inside. To prevent having to run the wire into the passenger compartment, I'm going to have the main part of the radio, the RF part, in the engine compartment. I'm still working on the details there, but that way I will avoid a whole lot of headliner removal and cable routing and so forth. It should really, really simplify the setup.
