There was a study that came out in 2022 and it was telling how exposure to hot and dry conditions can actually damage DNA of nesting birds after they hatch. They age faster, they die younger and because of that they produce fewer offspring. Rens, they were using wrens as a target of the study, in particular would be a purple cloud fairy wren. It's a small endangered songbird in northern Australia. The research showed that if these birds can adapt really fast in the morning, their populations can struggle to survive. Nestlings are very susceptible because of their immobility, their rapid growth and immature physiology. And the heat stress can produce damage that will persist well well into adulthood.
