In researchers looked at whether major mass shootings were followed by increases in lethal car crashes, country-wide. They found that the day of the shooting, either of 10 deadliest shootings showed a temporary increase in fatal accidents while driving. As people turned to media for information about the shootings, traffic deaths increased by about 14.3 percent or about 20 additional deaths across the country in one day. And the deaths on the day after 10 mass shootings added up to about 75 percent of the number of people killed in the shootings themselves. This is published in JAMA's psychiatry.
