When Houston presented the treaty to the Texas Congress, it was not ratified. A well-equipped force of almost 500 Texans under General Kelsli Douglas and Colonel Edward Burleston and Thomas Rusk defeated approximately 800 Cherokees under Chief Phillip the Bull Bulls. At the Battle of the Vetchis River near modern Tyler, Texas, give me a secondary check. Almost 100 Cherokees were killed or wounded, including Chief Bulls. The Texans lost only 8 men. The Texas Cherokees left the Eastern Texas area and moved to Indian Territory, present to Oklahoma. Burleston eventually became Vice President of Texas.
