The atmosphere is turning quite moist over California. At the upper levels, they took a sounding and they've looked at some model data from this and this is from the Monterey office and they're seeing overall atmospheric moisture content that could get up to over two inches in the upper levels of the atmosphere, which is huge. That's big for this time of the year. Usually you're below an inch. That's why California usually runs dry. With atmospheric moisture of two inches that covers basically the atmosphere, that's a lot of moisture. That's why they're watching that very closely for the weekend for more monsoonal moisture. Being that it's high level, it could develop thunderstorms that are high level and unfortunately the lower atmosphere is dry. So any rain that falls through it could fall as vertical as possible.
