There was a never before seen marine prehistoric animal. And it was found in Germany and dates back to the Jurassic period. It was given a name, please give him that name, Longycala, which actually translates into long necked near swimmer. And it dominated the marine environment from 183, 174 million years ago during the early Jurassic period, which makes me so distinct about the Jurassic movie that we wrote there. The animal's fossilized remains are about 10 feet, 3 meters long and the neck makes up about half the length of the body. And what's remarkable is the fact that the skeleton is nearly complete and contains fossilized tissue and bone structure. Not just the bones fossilized, but actual structure within the bones. They can actually see them. And the issue was what allowed scientists to determine that the animal was a newly discovered species. And the animal was discovered in Germany back in 1978 from a quarry, which is part of a Patagonia shell formation. And that actually is well known for its preserved fossil. And the fossil may have been in collection for decades, but it was never really studied until now in the United States because they were taking note of a kind of rather unique anatomy in the natural history museum of Billfield in Germany. And the specimen is the only known pressurizer from the town of Wolfmeiten, south-west Germany. And it's not adult when it's that wide. So 10 feet, 3 meters long, I mentioned. If it had reached adulthood, it could have been considered longer than that. And the other finding, which is another piece of the puzzle regarding evolutionary environment during the important time in our early history. In the animal, it lived during a period when significant environmental changes like major oceanic and arctic events, depletion of oxygen in the ocean, that impacted marine life worldwide. And this event resulted in ocean oxygen depletion, a big spike in seawater acidification. And as a result, a severe loss of marine life happened globally. That event caused an extinction of about 5% of life on land and in the sea. And the fossil is presently, this is the dark state museum, national history of Germany. And my take on the research report that I was reading was that because that animal happened to survive this period of time, it was not a clue as to why some animals avoid extinction and others don't due to environmental factors.
