I've always been wiring volume controls as a resistor, but not as a voltage divider. I learned a new thing about how to wire. If you're wiring, say you've got a jack and a switch and a jack and a switch and a potentiometer. How to wire the negative to one side of the potentiometer and then wire the input to the wiper and then wire the output to the other side of the potentiometer. I was using it as a resistor before, which kind of works, but this is just better.
