Line of sight makes all the difference as far as hitting the repeater, obviously. I have hiked up Mount Pilchuk east of Everett and it's like over 5,000 feet high up in the air and I can talk to this repeater with one watt and my hand held from up there I could talk all day. So I mean that's one thing and I know Jack, KX7RMU has vacationed up on Salt Spring Island and I don't know what he uses for an antenna but Jack has made contact from there and that's actually technically Canada. So again that kind of goes straight down over some mostly water.
