When an atom absorbs a photon, it's then not saved as energy. An atom is now an excited state. The photon leaves. And measuring the atoms inside the state. The duration shows how long the photon will absorb by the atom. Measuring this process with another beam of white shows a small phase shift, which is dependent on the atom's excitation level. And this is what proves the weird property of quantum mechanics called negative time. Dropping.
