not getting into the system with the same radio I've been using in that for over a year. And I measured power output, it's 10 watts. So I don't know. But anyway, I did have one suggestion for that gentleman. The shorter antenna if you're inside the car, talking car to car is one thing, but you're not going to get very good range if you're trying to talk through a repeater. You really need like a mag mount on top of the car or something like that. As far as hiking, again, close proximity, the shorter antenna is fine, but if you're a ways from the repeater, you definitely want possibly the like the 971 halfway antenna for the HT. They make them in both amateur and GMRS tuned antennas.
