I'm not sure about the shorter antenna for the car ride, but one thing I learned very quickly was when you're programming repeaters and go in somewhere, just make sure to leave out anything that doesn't have a PL on it. You'll get every interference possible. Actually, we can throw that out there as far as hiking with shorter, longer antennas. Anybody have any input on it?
