The creek was signed by 39 seats, 1,200 other Cherokees attended the meeting as well. This was known as the Holston River Tree, the Americans represented by Governor William Blout. Also on this day in 1836, an act of Congress allowed for more government-organized chalk taught Indian removal. The creek had been causing problems for the government in Alabama and Mississippi. This act would pass the removal, would be a secondary check. This act was passed to remove the 7,000 chalk taught still in Mississippi so that they did not exacerbate the problems with the creek. The treaty allowed any chalk taught remaining in Mississippi after the initial removal to become citizens of the state. Another major event that happened on this day in 1874.
