KI-5Y and KI-5SSR here is KI-7FR mobile about 20 miles north of the QTH right now. Heading to Trapper Cape to look for a higher way to hop out of trailer a couple weeks ago and my SUV is a little too weak for it. So I need something more substantial and it's a firewood roundup time of year. This is our rainy month too, it's pouring rain here. Anyway on the topic, I got interested in radio watching Iditarod when the Ham's would do all the traffic. Passing trail traffic from checkpoint to checkpoint and back to the headquarters. I was a checker back in the 80's and 90's and I was fascinated with the bend. I got away from it and I got into doing solar power about five years ago and I was watching YouTube videos on different solar power setups. There's a Backwoods Trapper channel that had a show on solar panels and at the end he said, Hey you can get this little ham radio, bow-fang radio for 25 bucks, get your license and get on the air. I got interested enough for emergency communication so I bought a bow-fang right away and started listening to the local repeater. Not much activity on there but I studied for my license and got my check in general in March of 2021, so a little over four years ago. I still haven't got into HF, I've got HF rigged but I've been having problems with it. But I mainly wanted to get into ham radio for emergency comms, I didn't know anything about nets or just all the camaraderie in the hobby. So I think it's a cool hobby. Glad I stumbled into it looking at those solar panel videos. I'm meeting a lot of cool people from around the world, especially here on the 11 Tots network. Thanks for taking my check in. I think I'm about to lose signal, it drops in and out usually when I change powers. I'll try to check in again on another round if I have signal. Thanks again. KM5Y, KL7FR, back to neck control.
