You build a brand new antenna, you hook it up for the first time, and then you make these far off DX contacts, but you never seem to be able to make them again. I don't know what that is. It's kind of like the antenna has all this mojo, or limited supply of mojo, and you use it all up in the first contacts. Well, you know what happened. I'm not actually sure what happened, something between the computer and the radio glitch. I had the 891, the FT-891 from the HRD on the laptop, and you know, the band changes and tuning and all that sort of thing are real easy on there. And with the mouse and the scroll wheel you can do a lot of stuff, but the transmitter on that radio stopped transmitting, at least it didn't transmit anything, modulated all of the power output meter so that it was running at full power. And it showed a little bit of RF on my meter that I had, the RF receiver, and certainly lit up the HT if you had it close to the antenna. But it wasn't actually doing anything, no one could hear me, so that got real frustrating. I haven't tried that antenna since I got it working, I had to do a full reset, and at that time I had no way to save the settings, now I do, you have to have software to do it. So I've got the settings saved and ready to go if it ever happens again. It's not a big deal if you have that, but you know, I got all my settings done again, and the headset and the foot pedal are all working well. And a few more little things I've added to it since then too that may keep some of that from happening, but who knows, not sure what happened. But you know, with no transmission for two times out in the parks, I wasn't talking to anybody, and now it seems to be working very well. I made some contacts with a 34 foot dual 17 foot whip dipole up at 15 feet and rotated around the right direction. I made some contacts on the east coast pretty easy the last time I had it out, so it's working again, so we'll see what happens if I get that tall wire antenna back up.
