We had moved to Missouri for my senior year and I was not too happy about that. So I wanted to move back to Minnesota, but I graduated from high school and my uncle called and said, hey, why don't you come up to Alaska for a couple weeks, go fishing. And he said, I'll pay half your air for a graduation present. You died to pay the other half. I said, hell, I want to go to Alaska. I'll pay the other half. So I came to Alaska on a two-week fishing trip. That was in 1980. And the second day I was here, my other uncle Gary, who also lived up here, brought me fishing on the Keeneye River and I caught a salmon and I knew I was never going to eat. I've been on vacation for 46 years now. And my godfather Otto, he just passed a month ago today. He was 101 years old.
