Wheaton, Illinois, and in 1979. Last night I posed a riddle that came to me from Georg Polia who wrote the book, How to Solve It. The riddle is this. A bear starts at a point P like Papa, walks one mile D's house, turns and walks one mile D's east, and then turns and walks one mile D north and arrives back at point P. What color is a bear? Now, the point I'm still making with this is that there are several ways to solve it. The answer is of course that the bear is white because he's starting at the North Pole. What most of my students, and I would expect it almost everybody who heard it last night got it because how many radios are you doing?
