It's talking directly to Alsa, which is the... I forget what it stands for, but it's kind of the standard Linux architecture, which is a generation newer than what ASL 3 is using, and it's the thing that pipe wire and pulse audio and all those sorts of things sit on top of, but it's closer to the bare metal.
