When you have a fine wave, where your alternate between positive and negative, basically when it goes to zero, that's when they would inject the signal, at least on the X10 stuff that I've seen. During normal driving that battery the accessory battery or keep-alive is switched in out of parallel with the main battery to keep it charged. So there's so many systems that keep-alive system monitors. For instance if your steering wheel is turned too far if you are stopped your steering wheel is turned too far to the left or right. It disables the start stop function. In other words the engine doesn't shut off because it's assuming that you need to move. And you can draw that battery down to say 50% of its capacity or so long or viable for doing the functions of the vehicle for starting and so forth. But the vehicle still thinks the battery is fully charged because it wasn't able to monitor in and out. So there's an example of where the 9-volt battery I think maintains the computer. That will get confused, the main thing that will get shut off, if the computer can no longer determine the proper state of charge of the battery in the vehicle. The Cherokee does not have a separate battery, it only has one main battery, but if she had bought the Grand Cherokee, yes there is a second battery and on her vehicle on the Grand Cherokee, not hers, but if she had bought the Grand Cherokee, the two batteries are actually in a well underneath the passenger seat, which are found really interesting because it's been a long time since I've seen a vehicle where the battery is not underneath the lid."},{"confidence":0.8760215358601676,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:52:31.559493+00:00","id":137122,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138250,"text":"battery. You really should connect that negatively to the chassis somewhere for a ground point. Comment. Okay. Yeah, I hear that the comment there. I'll come back to you in a second. Yeah, great. I was not aware that the systems typically have that. That makes sense. But I didn't realize that that was done on a lot of modern cars where they actually have that. And yeah, you're right. It is definitely important to go on the right side of the center if you want the system to measure the current that's falling out of that battery. Yeah, go ahead. Comment. Thank you, Tom, for letting me jump in. This is Don, WD6LPG. I know I have the start stop feature on My Jeep, but it also has a second battery, the accessory battery."},{"confidence":0.9447107327869162,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:52:29.279410+00:00","id":137121,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138249,"text":"The reason I bring it up is I did some research on this. It becomes more important when you hook up accessories to your vehicle such as a mobile rig to place your negative ground on that device on the right side of that shunt. Otherwise, the computer does not register the energy that's being siphoned out of your battery to go for an accessory that you added. And that can really confuse the system. In other words, it doesn't know really what the state of charge of the battery is or how much energy is in the battery because you're allowing energy to be taken out that's bypassing its monitoring capabilities. So I just bring that up because what they really recommend, it's not on the positive side. Shunt's are normally on the negative side and that's what the manufacturers have done. You should hook your negative lead, contrary to everything we always have done connecting both positive and negative."},{"confidence":0.9498498123139143,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:52:27.015493+00:00","id":137120,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138248,"text":"Okay, great. I was waiting for a pointer or some comment about the monitoring system. Yeah, I didn't make that clear. I was taking a pause letting you comment on that whether you're aware of it or not aware of it. This came up recently on Lisa's 2015 Jeep Cherokee, where after she starts the car in the morning, she gets a warning that the start stop features is disabled, other features in the vehicle are disabled because the battery is undercharged and the battery is currently being charged. It's not that the battery is actually undercharged or needs to be charged. It's that the system has lost track of what's in the battery, what's been taken out of the battery. So most likely it's a fault with the intelligent battery sensor, which is just a smart shot on the negative lead and the battery."},{"confidence":0.7013080186314053,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:32:39.550935+00:00","id":137054,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138182,"text":"the talk very much, plus my daughter and grandson, Chase, were up there, so I had that to deal with too. So, I hope that you enjoyed the dinner and the interaction. I enjoyed it. Always enjoyed Field Day. Did not get to participate as much as normal, but really enjoyed it. I was going to mention real quickly today that all new vehicles pretty much produced after 2010 have a device and I'm called an intelligent battery sensor. General Motors calls it a battery monitoring sensor, so different manufacturers have slightly different name for it. What it really comes down to is as cars have gotten more sophisticated and they're trying to eke out every amount of fleet mileage they possibly can from their vehicles."},{"confidence":0.36540067195892334,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:32:37.642695+00:00","id":137053,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138181,"text":"Okay, I unfortunately I had to, for some reason, Sam's no gut stuck there and I had to disconnect him. And good to see you up at the UN lease up at Phil Day on Saturday. Good to see you. Probably didn't get to talk to you enough, but a lot of people interact with the Great Event, Great Social Event. Yeah, that was also a good dinner. There are just so many people there that we didn't get to."},{"confidence":0.6766197085380554,"created_at":"2026-07-02T16:32:35.745643+00:00","id":137052,"node_number":"683210","recording_id":138180,"text":"Good morning there and Denver, nice sunny day. And yeah, and it's kind of FYI, you're about three quarters into, and on your, your own, or out, say about three quarters, signal into a mountaintop. A little bit of noise behind you, but definitely a Q5 copy. Okay, well, I hope all goes well with your eye doctor appointment and hope to hope to see you soon. It was great working with you at W1-ATV and then the second-inch. Likewise Tom. All right, in 6-8-W1-ATV, 7-3-8. All right, 7-3 Aaron. All right, going back to the Colorado to Denver, okay, for LGI. Yeah, it was fun running the Go to Station, and also you had a lot of people there, it's here at the Mp8 station there, so it was good, I liked the way the things were set up this year and the way all the different stations were set up, I think it was good. Yeah, I think it was a good layout, but it was just a common area there where I sat around and he's such, so it was a good time, had by all the weather was great, and it was a little cool in the morning with the wind, but it was awesome, I take that rainy day over that 100 degree stop, so. And yeah, again, I'm sorry that you weren't able to make it there with Lori, but hopefully she has a good time and you can live things through her and get some great pictures. All right, you take care there and be well. All right, clearing with the KA6U AI. Next W-1 ATV, good morning, Aaron. And it was good seeing you at Field Day. It will cool things down and of course they probably keep it freezing in there compared to outside. But I think the parade which is on the fourth in the morning, it's not real early I don't think but that's going to be pretty warm and she's sort of prepared for that with the neck coolers and the UV umbrellas and all that sort of thing. But I don't know if they're going to be able to do it or under friend both have issues with heat and they get out in the heat for a little bit and they pass out. Yeah, we just talked to Rich back there, and he said, yeah, it's gonna be a crazy field day there. So hopefully Lori will be safe, and definitely hydrates, and kind of, you know, it takes her to be really, really, really bad. But some might, there might be inside there at a building instead of actually being on the mall. So that probably would be better. Hopefully all that works out for her. Well, look at the tour group is going to do some, you know, walking tours between places. And you know, that may be tough, but she said that apparently it's not going to be any issue whatsoever if she wants to go duck inside somewhere and call a new bird and go back to the hotel. So I guess maybe,"}]}
