How is your weekend, Pat, on what's going on in your life? How's that new radio? This is KC2, PKG over to you, WE2A. All right, great. Well, good morning to you and everybody on that brother Bill there. Well, had a great weekend. I went up to the local club field day site and saw some old friends. And they had plenty of people. And I didn't need to operate. They were well stocked with operators. And I wanted to play with field day from the house. And I'm trying. I used things like field day and smaller contests."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8200000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-11T05:03:34+00:00","id":16073,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":16072,"text":" everybody participating in the tower bunking in on the two drop in. I was responding to some things here. I had to do a little writing. And actually it's a little wet and overcast and the temperature dropped really low. In the Atlantic it's getting a little active and I height the map up right now. It's a little disconcerting because there's one disturbance that came off the coast of Africa. They usually take a while but this one developed into something really fast. However, when I go to my radar, you know, on the National Hurricane map, they forecast that turning north. So that's good. Right about now is when there's going to be any activity for the year it starts. There's two light disturbances but they're too far north. And heading out towards Greenland to be a much of a concern. It's just this recent one. So let's see, I got my motor delivered from Amazon yesterday, my stepper motor. And it's been perfect. I got it all packed together and my stars are bursting again. And the nebula in the background changes colors. It's undulating again. You know, it was just like you would turn it on without the motor. And then the stars would just stay stagnant. And then you could see the ripples of the nebula in the background. I mean, that was so good. But I liked that one. I probably spent more money fixing it than what I thought it but I can't replace it because they don't make it anymore. And the one that I bought to replace it, I don't like. So that one I'm going to give away. And I bought even a better one. So I'm going to keep the two and give one away. AJ4HO, I'm near North Florida. Sorry to hear it. You know, you were having vandalism problems. That's never fun. Thanks, Brian. AJ4HO, this is KC2PKG. I'm really glad that you got your rejection lamp back. It's all repaired. How do you do it yourself? We're all proud of you. Very good. Ah, W-E-2-A. Nice to hear you this morning. Are you on the road this week or are you home? This is KC2PKG over at W-E-2-A. Good morning, Gray and the assembled group here. No, on the road. Before Josh finished his transmission, I was already up to 70 miles an hour. I'm going to take the cruise set and it'll stay set for 60 more miles until I get down to Syracuse and have to get off Interstate 81 and get on to Interstate 90 heading west. But I just turned it on. I heard you calling and I was going to wait to check in because I had to go through the gears and get out of the industrial park where I pick up my trailer. But I thought, oh, I hate to see somebody struggle. So I just tagged along there with Josh and Ron. I am going to be a one and done. I got a bunch of other stuff to do this morning, but I thought, well, I got a couple of minutes. I'll stop in and punch my ticket and let everybody know I'm still alive. Had a good weekend, just like everybody else. It was a little hot. But the good thing about it getting hot is my yard is as hard as a rock. So in the next couple of weeks when I rent the man lift to put my beam up, it won't put big dents in my lawn. I'm putting my beam up. I'll reset real quick. It got kind of put on the back shelf. I had a project, a simple, in air quotes, project for my wife. That's what she called it. And then she kept changing the requirements for the simple project. So now I'm a month plus in with over $1,000 on her simple project. But hey, got to keep her happy. I got just one more thing to do on it, and then I'm going to put a hold on her project. I want to get those in. I want to get my beam up and some stuff changed around on my tower before snow starts flying. So that's what's kicking here. And I hope everybody has a great day. Like I said, I'm on my way to Dutteetway. W-E-2-A. This is KC2PKT. I'm Kelly Schmidt. And you're about to get a man lift. I guess you've run one before. Or you're getting an operator as well. Let us know that. Would you come to the W-E-2-A? What do you know? Oh, no. I'm not going to be somebody to run that thing. I mean, you can drive a car or play a video game. You can run a man lift. I've driven them and run them before. I used to haul them. I've taken them on and off trailers. I've used them before at different places. It's pretty simple. Renting a 70-foot reach, man lift. The top of the tower is 65. So I don't want to be putting a ladder in it. The difference between a 60-footer and a 70-footer is like 10 bucks a day. And so I'm just going to have them. Well, I have to talk to them because my boss has a trailer that we can use to haul it ourselves. So if I can save a couple hundred bucks in delivery fee, I'll just have my boss bring it out to me. He said he'd do it for nothing. So I'm going to rent it for a week. And in addition to the tower work I have to do, I've got a bunch of arboreal work to do, a bunch of tree work that I need to get done. And it's much safer and easier with a lift. And so I'm just going to \u2013 if I rent it for three days, a three-day rental is more than a one-week rental. So I'm just going to rent it for the week. And that would not rush. And I can take my time and do things right. My grandsons and my son are going to give me an A in what I'm doing at work. So I've got a work crew. But there you go, great. That's a P2A. Well, that's fantastic, W2A. This is KC2PKG. I've been looking at or just staring at an array, a steerable array of antennas that I want to put up on top of my garage. And I've had that project that's been there for like three years. And I keep thinking to myself, I should just go get a man lift and do it. But there's also Elliot. He has a bucket truck, which I think could do the job. The hard part of the job is the central pole in the whole system weighs 135 pounds. It's lithium steel and it's really heavy. So you definitely need some kind of mechanical assistance to get it up there. And then it has to be mounted and all this stuff. I should get out of my own way on that project. All right, let's see if there's anybody else out there. We've taken Pat off course. Thank you so much, Pat, for joining us. It's wonderful to hear you. But if you'd like to join us, then come down with your call sign. This is KC2PKG. And I understand it's Monday morning. But give it a shot. 10-0 PM."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8700000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-11T04:57:14+00:00","id":16071,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":16070,"text":" Alright, a little pause for Elite Bloomers. I picked up three people that time, KJ5 IRQ, Josh, AA4-H0, Ron, and WE2A. Matt, so let's start with Josh. How was your weekend, Josh? What's going on with you? Good morning, KJ5 IRQ. My weekend was informative. I spent the weekend getting to know GPT-5 a little bit better. It was pretty different compared to GPT-4.4. I really, really had some really poor abilities. We haven't played with that all weekend. It's too hot to do anything. So I played with it and figured out how to make repeatable characters, which is no easy task. AI likes to change things every time you run a prompt, so you have to mitigate that. I spent a lot of time doing that. I didn't know what was going on yesterday when you were texting me. I know you said you were struggling with your dad and started working on a few things, but man, that sucks. I guess that's about it. This is another hot week in Texas. After that, I think things start cooling off a little bit. So that's a nice thing. I think we'll still see you in about 96 today. Well, excuse me. I have not wanted to wake up today. I spent too much time reading my book last night and stayed up way too late. I'm really happy to just use a PTO day to day. I don't usually use them at the last minute, so I don't know what I'm going to do. Anyhow, I'm just waking up and moving my head up for a good hour, just not moving that much. With that, I'll send it back to you, KJ5-IRG. I'm sending it to KC2-PKG. KJ5-IRG, this is KC2-PKG. It's going to be hot here today, too. For the next two days, it could be the hottest days of December. Statewide, it's supposed to get up to 90, but since we live on the coast, it's probably not going to get above 80. Still, it's already warm and stinky. Nasty. Nasty. Alright, on AA4-HO. How's the weather in Florida? And how was your weekend? What did you do? I need electricity. And I need some type of running water. But that's it. If I've got two of those things, I'm good to go. Now the thing is, I can't drive an RV, right? So I'd have to park it and be connected to water. Or, you know, and, uh, uh, you know, a black water drainage as well. Because, you know, you're gonna wanna use the bathroom and you're gonna wanna have a shower. That's two important things to me. I need to bell the crap, and I need to get clean. So, uh, as far as cooking, as long as I've got enough power to run my air fryer, I will never need anything else to cook. Uh, not a chance. Air fryer is the only way to go. And it's all I use. I tell you, for the most part, I could definitely live in a remote thing in a camper or an RV or something. Uh, or, you know, like one of those Econoline vans, you know, converted, um, to a camper. I hadn't heard that about Daryl, about the troops actually up to Oregon yet, so I don't know. Oh, you know, it's the beginning of the week, it's raining like hell. I really have no idea what I'm going to be doing this week. Another driver got hurt, and that's my driver, but it takes the loads from me and makes the deliveries. So last week I was kind of doing the hodgepodge, the whole bunch of different things, and now this week I'm headed back into the orange. So they hired an owner-operator to make the deliveries up here. So I'm just bringing it up to him, and then he's making the deliveries, and we'll see how well that works out. Don't know how long this is going to go on. Of course, I was told that if he doesn't come back to work, that they're going to hire another driver up here in the Des Moines area. And they'll just be making deliveries one day, runs directly from my yard, and just go up the front porch and give it to the owner-operator. So it beats the hell out of me what I'm going to be doing here in a few weeks. It could be, I don't know, it could be going on like this for a while, or it might not. I'm not really too worried about it. You want to reset? And weekend was great. It was a good weekend. I got a lot of work done. Did my handy-dandy work for that drive-thru for the tracks in the driveway. At first I thought, oh boy, I really screwed this up. But after I kind of sanded it down and got to the track itself, it was nice and hard. I went ahead and my car washed most of my driveway after that fact, and the water was holding it. It wasn't going down in the track, so mission accomplished. And the best thing that's happened so far this week has just happened today. There's this place I went to about four weeks ago, five weeks ago. It was a Harley dealer. They were having a live band there. I went up there primarily to do a shoot, you know, film the band, maybe get a little street-scalve at the end. I got a great shot of the band, a couple great shots of the band. Then I also got this really good shot of this guy walking in front of a gray, gray building, wood railing, grass on the ground. It was like he had a purpose in life. He was going somewhere, right? And did a lot of editing of it, and then I put it up on Flickr. That's where I post most of my stuff. It's kind of a place I can put all my stuff at and do everything that's stored up there. And then occasionally, if I think there's something that's halfway decent, I will actually share it to several groups. You know, and it's a hit or miss type of thing, you know, if people like it or not. I mean, I've got something like 1,700, 1,800 pictures up here, right? So, you know, not all of them are going to be looked at. But anyways, my point is, this particular picture I've been debating for quite some time. If I was going to show it to a group, then I'd like to do a write-up on it at some point. So I could treat, could, could treat, could treat. That's a hard word to say this morning. My photo and wrote about it and said what was good about it and what was bad about it. And said that this is basically what you're looking for, a street photo. And I posted it yesterday evening. And I got a couple of hits, you know, people, you know, we can get, we like this photo, that kind of thing. And I woke up to get ready for work. That's when Europe is getting out of bed, of course. And for some reason, my work feels better in Europe than it does here in the United States. But I started getting notifications like several, several an hour. And then halfway through the middle of the night, I was getting even more notifications. They were coming in like one every, every two or three minutes, you know. And so when I got up here to the yard, I stopped and I opened up my thing and I got the Explorer Award again. I've only had it like four or five times. Now the Explorer Award is basically, the word is like enough by the Explorer team. You can't, you can't post anything on Explorer. It's kind of only the best of the best work goes up there. All right. And so, boom, I'm on there. It's been almost a year, so well, yeah, almost a year probably since I hit the last one. So now it's being shown worldwide in all countries that have with 2G and Flickr. That means millions and millions of people will probably see this photo and I just, I like it. It starts to be recognized once in a while, you know. But now this is the cool thing, the real cool thing. Um, when you get on Flickr, Explorer Award, right, they're saying it's good enough to show anywhere. And four or five pictures that I have that I've won the Flickr Award on, including this one today, these are all good enough like I could send them to art galleries and sell it type stuff. And I've never done it, but I've been thinking about taking these five photos and actually, you know, putting them on the market. And now that I have a little bit of a, you know, a portfolio that I think I could show, I'm thinking about going ahead and doing it and seeing if I can actually get it in art galleries to sell. It's difficult, it's expensive, but it's something I like to try. But that's what's going on today with me. Thanks, Greg. That's my control, KB0MAI. KB0MAI, this is KC2PKT. Congratulations, man. That is great. Worldwide coverage and recognition. That must make you feel pretty good. Yeah, I used to, every once in a while I'd have a column that went out over the wire services and so I'd start getting messages from England and France and stuff like that about what I'd written. And it made me feel good. So you'd serve. Well, you work hard at it. You know, and that's an important component. It obviously shows in your work. I'll have to jump on your website and look at that. Yeah, it's me, W-E-2-A, Whiskey Echo 2 Alpha Canadian for us, W-E-2-A. But yeah, I've been looking at some of those new mobiles of the different flavors. And the big thing that gets me is that they each came up with their own proprietary digital mode. And up where I live, there's none of that. There's no digital modes, basically. It's all still analog. But I did find that one of the repeaters is finally hooked up to the Echo Link type stuff. And I've heard a couple of guys check in to what I thought was a local machine. And they were out in Michigan or down in the Carolinas or something, or out by New York City. And it's like, well, I'm clear up in upstate New York on the Canadian border. But I don't know which way I'm going to go with the FM at my place. I'm more of a weak signal guy. And I've got to put that. Let me reset. I've got to put a 30-foot tower up right behind the learnatorium to hold my VHF, UHF stuff. And it'll be some Roan 25G. I've got it laying around the house. But yeah, it's going to have all my VHF, UHF stuff on it. And our local club, where the club is located, because we actually have a clubhouse, we own property, it's kind of down in a hole. And not many people can hit the repeater. And so if I put a tower at each end of my garage and one taller than the other, I'll have the horizontal separation. And the big problem is the cavities, the cans. They put so much loss into it that you can hear the repeater, but people can't hear it because it uses a single antenna. Where if I can put it at my place and run separate transmit and receive antennas, I don't need any cans, and so any filters on it. So I've got to talk to the president and see what's going on there. And then they've got a 220 repeater that is all complete, but they can't use it. They don't have a place to put it up. And I'm going to see if I can buy it from them. And that way, I'd put the 2-meter and the 220 repeater in my garage and have a separate transmit and receive antenna on those things there. But that's next year. I can't even get to it this year. Oh, that's what I was talking about earlier. I didn't know if anybody knew this, but if you're using a VPN, you can't airdrop things to your Mac, or like cast them to your Mac because it makes it look like you're not on the same network anymore. So it doesn't work. It shows up as a castable device, but it says, no, we can't do this. And I looked it up, and apparently you've got to turn your VPN off for it to work. And I keep the VPN turned on on my Mac because I just don't want my downloading activities, which mostly persists of like movies and stuff like that, to go back to the Internet service provider. We do have laws against downloading copyrighted material in Canada, but there's never been a lawsuit because we have a maximum awardable amount per case of only $5,000. So it costs more for their lawyers to sue somebody than they could even get back. And that includes legal fees, a cap of $5,000. So there's never been one lawsuit in Canada for downloading copyrighted material, but we do get these emails from the ISP saying, we know you downloaded this, we know it was at this time from this site, blah, blah, blah. And my dad was getting tons of those emails. But now with the VPN, no emails. So it's all good. W-E-2-A, Pat, it's all you, man. Then we'll make the final call for check-ins."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8200000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-21T07:17:40+00:00","id":79832,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":79831,"text":" We2a, happy birthday once again and thanks for joining us this morning. Awesome timing. I'm getting to stop and do my business and get some gas. And what I'll do is I'll take a couple extra minutes and I will fire off those three short clips. Two of them are about a minute and a half and then the last one is only about 45 seconds. It don't take you long to get from the airplane to the ground. You're at 1,500 feet. But yeah, it's hard for me to put into words how much fun it was to do that after 42 years of not doing it. And the better part was seeing all the old friends. And I I don't know. To me, military friends are kind of different than regular friends. It's, I don't know, maybe it's the nature of the life we led or all that. But I mean, I hadn't seen these guys, some of them, in 45 years or more. And when we sat down at the table to break bread and consume some beverages, you know, other than catching up on what we've been doing for the last 40-some years, it was just like, you know, I saw them last week. I'll send those off and this will be my last one because I got to make some phone calls and check with some other people and I'm in northern part of Virginia on Interstate 81 so yeah it was fun checking in and Josh I know you're upset but hey there's no R's and D's anymore they're all C's they're all criminals and you know you we do our best to vote for who we think is going to do good but Mordor on the Potomac corrupts everyone because they all want my precious in their pocket they don't care about us but anyways 73 to everybody and uh I hope you because Daryl Daryl has permission to send those things wherever he wants and and everybody enjoy them. We2A will catch on another day."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8200000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T12:14:56+00:00","id":90108,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":90107,"text":"KV0MAI KM4QBC November Quebec November All Star Node 6222 Located in Shelton Washington Whiskey Echo 2 Alpha W2A"}]}
