We got you on the list. And any time you need to check out, you can just go ahead and let us know. And we will take you off so we don't call you again. But appreciate it. And now we're over to upstate, upstate, upstate New York. So upstate, he's almost in Canada if he wanted to get his feet wet. That's WDA2A. Pat, how you doing this morning, Pat? Well, good morning, Bill and everybody on the net. I just made some changes to the computer here in the house. So I'm making sure my EchoLink thing is working good. But not a whole lot going on. Just going to kind of chill out today. Have to run out to Iowa again on Monday. So they've been pretty much running every week. And it's a production issue between the two plants. So that's why they keep me running. And I've only got three, four days at home, or four days at home to try and work on the low-net toil again. But that's kind of got on the back burner. I've been working on a project for Deborah. And I've got like one more day on that project that I can focus on getting the beam up in the air, working on the antennas on the shack there. And I can't remember his name, but the last guy to check in working on his station, good deal. It's always fun. So I'm just going to get one of them done. I've got things to do today, Bill. But I just wanted to check in and let your people here know what I sound like so you can let me know how this thing's working. I do have kind of a little frog in my throat. So take that in consideration. So have a great day. W-2-A. Yeah, you sound great. You asked for the sound of your frog in your throat. I was going to say something about that, that you sounded a little bit under weather, but a little over talked. And other than that, the transmission was clear. There was no static, not a lot of background noise. So everything's good there. Hope you have a safe and pleasant trip out to Iowa. I think he said Iowa. And we'll catch you around, for sure. And with that, and for anybody's, well, to make it legal, this is N9 OFU Bill out of Phoenix or Tolson, Arizona. But now we're going to go over to W-A-6 ABC, slowly becoming a regular again on the Kowabunga net, which is highly, greatly appreciated. You still doing photography, Mike? I do see a picture that you post every now and then up on Facebook. But I don't see as many as I used to. So I hope you're still into that. We got Pat at KB0MAI, who has been filling in as our provider of pictures. But how are the cats doing? That's what everybody wants to know. How are all those cats doing? Over to you, Mike."},{"callsign_confidence":0.8700000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-11T05:03:34+00:00","id":16073,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":16072,"text":" everybody participating in the tower bunking in on the two drop in. I was responding to some things here. I had to do a little writing. And actually it's a little wet and overcast and the temperature dropped really low. In the Atlantic it's getting a little active and I height the map up right now. It's a little disconcerting because there's one disturbance that came off the coast of Africa. They usually take a while but this one developed into something really fast. However, when I go to my radar, you know, on the National Hurricane map, they forecast that turning north. So that's good. Right about now is when there's going to be any activity for the year it starts. There's two light disturbances but they're too far north. And heading out towards Greenland to be a much of a concern. It's just this recent one. So let's see, I got my motor delivered from Amazon yesterday, my stepper motor. And it's been perfect. I got it all packed together and my stars are bursting again. And the nebula in the background changes colors. It's undulating again. You know, it was just like you would turn it on without the motor. And then the stars would just stay stagnant. And then you could see the ripples of the nebula in the background. I mean, that was so good. But I liked that one. I probably spent more money fixing it than what I thought it but I can't replace it because they don't make it anymore. And the one that I bought to replace it, I don't like. So that one I'm going to give away. And I bought even a better one. So I'm going to keep the two and give one away. AJ4HO, I'm near North Florida. Sorry to hear it. You know, you were having vandalism problems. That's never fun. Thanks, Brian. AJ4HO, this is KC2PKG. I'm really glad that you got your rejection lamp back. It's all repaired. How do you do it yourself? We're all proud of you. Very good. Ah, W-E-2-A. Nice to hear you this morning. Are you on the road this week or are you home? This is KC2PKG over at W-E-2-A. Good morning, Gray and the assembled group here. No, on the road. Before Josh finished his transmission, I was already up to 70 miles an hour. I'm going to take the cruise set and it'll stay set for 60 more miles until I get down to Syracuse and have to get off Interstate 81 and get on to Interstate 90 heading west. But I just turned it on. I heard you calling and I was going to wait to check in because I had to go through the gears and get out of the industrial park where I pick up my trailer. But I thought, oh, I hate to see somebody struggle. So I just tagged along there with Josh and Ron. I am going to be a one and done. I got a bunch of other stuff to do this morning, but I thought, well, I got a couple of minutes. I'll stop in and punch my ticket and let everybody know I'm still alive. Had a good weekend, just like everybody else. It was a little hot. But the good thing about it getting hot is my yard is as hard as a rock. So in the next couple of weeks when I rent the man lift to put my beam up, it won't put big dents in my lawn. I'm putting my beam up. I'll reset real quick. It got kind of put on the back shelf. I had a project, a simple, in air quotes, project for my wife. That's what she called it. And then she kept changing the requirements for the simple project. So now I'm a month plus in with over $1,000 on her simple project. But hey, got to keep her happy. I got just one more thing to do on it, and then I'm going to put a hold on her project. I want to get those in. I want to get my beam up and some stuff changed around on my tower before snow starts flying. So that's what's kicking here. And I hope everybody has a great day. Like I said, I'm on my way to Dutteetway. W-E-2-A. This is KC2PKT. I'm Kelly Schmidt. And you're about to get a man lift. I guess you've run one before. Or you're getting an operator as well. Let us know that. Would you come to the W-E-2-A? What do you know? Oh, no. I'm not going to be somebody to run that thing. I mean, you can drive a car or play a video game. You can run a man lift. I've driven them and run them before. I used to haul them. I've taken them on and off trailers. I've used them before at different places. It's pretty simple. Renting a 70-foot reach, man lift. The top of the tower is 65. So I don't want to be putting a ladder in it. The difference between a 60-footer and a 70-footer is like 10 bucks a day. And so I'm just going to have them. Well, I have to talk to them because my boss has a trailer that we can use to haul it ourselves. So if I can save a couple hundred bucks in delivery fee, I'll just have my boss bring it out to me. He said he'd do it for nothing. So I'm going to rent it for a week. And in addition to the tower work I have to do, I've got a bunch of arboreal work to do, a bunch of tree work that I need to get done. And it's much safer and easier with a lift. And so I'm just going to \u2013 if I rent it for three days, a three-day rental is more than a one-week rental. So I'm just going to rent it for the week. And that would not rush. And I can take my time and do things right. My grandsons and my son are going to give me an A in what I'm doing at work. So I've got a work crew. But there you go, great. That's a P2A. Well, that's fantastic, W2A. This is KC2PKG. I've been looking at or just staring at an array, a steerable array of antennas that I want to put up on top of my garage. And I've had that project that's been there for like three years. And I keep thinking to myself, I should just go get a man lift and do it. But there's also Elliot. He has a bucket truck, which I think could do the job. The hard part of the job is the central pole in the whole system weighs 135 pounds. It's lithium steel and it's really heavy. So you definitely need some kind of mechanical assistance to get it up there. And then it has to be mounted and all this stuff. I should get out of my own way on that project. All right, let's see if there's anybody else out there. We've taken Pat off course. Thank you so much, Pat, for joining us. It's wonderful to hear you. But if you'd like to join us, then come down with your call sign. This is KC2PKG. And I understand it's Monday morning. But give it a shot. 10-0 PM."},{"callsign_confidence":0.98,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-09-17T04:44:26+00:00","id":40069,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":40068,"text":" Whiskey Echo 2 Alpha W2A"},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-10-07T04:53:44+00:00","id":55047,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":55046,"text":" Yeah, I guess for now. All this month, every Monday, I will be headed to Iowa. And once the month is over, the first full week of November and the second full week, I'm headed down to Florida to do a parachute jump with some old friends. But yeah, the the Lernetorium is just about there. This week, I finished the in-ground grounding system. All the wires laid, all the ground rods are down. All of that stuff's been buried, except for a couple of places where I needed to leave it exposed because I have to tap into it. I'm putting an additional ground on one of the tower legs. I mean, they say ground all three tower legs, but it's like, it's metal. It's all one piece. Why ground it in three places when I only need to really ground it one but so I got to tie in that. And then the grounding box where the panel goes where all the lightning arrestors are, that's completed. And let me reset. I just have to get that mounted onto the exterior wall of the Lernetorium and get the cable and wires routed in and everything wired up and then the inside of the shack grounded. But that'll be this week and probably Thursday and Friday of next week, getting ready for the big contest. We'll seek your worldwide foam contest is the weekend of the 25th. But and then in my spare time, I got to put all the firewood I split 16 face cords, I got to get all that put into my woodshed because it is quickly coming up on wood stove season were probably by the end of this week, going to be a peak foliage. A little bit of mist this morning. But the foliage is looking really good. And you know, just kicking along doing my thing. So that's all we got. Glad to have you here. Well, I know for a fact that Social Security and Medicare and even VA benefits are secure and are not affected by the government shutdown. And I don't know who's telling you that they want to give immigrants, illegal immigrants, complete medical insurance, but that's not true either. So anyways, Pat, take it away. What's your take on today's, what kind of adventure you going to have today? Let me just put it that way. This is repeater station kilo, kilo, so remember, I don't watch any news. Those are notes that see through. I don't like it. I think it's all garbage. You know, we had to say it in the Army, believe none of what you hear and half of what you see. But yeah, I do think there is a part of Social Security that is affected by the shutdown. And that's the part that has to be budgeted in, and that's the supplemental Social Security. You know, like if the person's disabled and can't work and all that stuff. I think that part's in the budget, but all those old farts, yeah, that's supposed to be in its own lockbox. And veterans pay, you know, that money's separate from the defense budget. It's a whole other basket, but you know, I really don't care. I'm not a rich man, but my finances are in good enough order that it probably takes six or seven months before I noticed anything. Besides that, I still, you know, I can go out and work when I need to. But let me reset real quick. What adventure am I on today? Gentlemen, instead of being in my large car, I'm in my little truck. It's on Interstate 81, and I'm headed south instead of west. I am on my way to Florida. And Saturday morning, oh man, zero dark in the morning, 7.30, 8 o'clock in the morning. I'm going to be jumping out of an airplane again with some old friends of mine out of a vintage World War II plane that dropped guys into France on D-Day. And I had some plans on the way down. I was going to stop at Daytona, but that got pushed back because my connection's in Kansas. They sent him to Kansas instead of being in Daytona. So I don't get my stock car ride. And one of my friends I was going to visit had a family thing come up. And so I'm headed to a friend of mine's down in Fort Lauderdale. And I'll be down there tomorrow. And we're probably going to go to Key West on Wednesday and Thursday. And then Friday, it's up to Orlando. And do the prep stuff for the jump. And then Saturday, it's the jump. But I'm just like a little kid, except I get to drive to Christmas. And I'm just so it's a pleasant, pleasant feeling to know I'm going to jump again. So that's what's kicking here. I'm just coming into Scranton, Pennsylvania. I left early this morning. My son that lives close by had to go to the airport. He's flying to Atlanta today. And he had a 5 o'clock flight. So I left home a little early and dropped him off at the airport on the way. But that's what's kicking. So go ahead, Brian. Yeah, it's me, W-E-2-A, Whiskey Echo 2 Alpha Canadian for us, W-E-2-A. But yeah, I've been looking at some of those new mobiles of the different flavors. And the big thing that gets me is that they each came up with their own proprietary digital mode. And up where I live, there's none of that. There's no digital modes, basically. It's all still analog. But I did find that one of the repeaters is finally hooked up to the Echo Link type stuff. And I've heard a couple of guys check in to what I thought was a local machine. And they were out in Michigan or down in the Carolinas or something, or out by New York City. And it's like, well, I'm clear up in upstate New York on the Canadian border. But I don't know which way I'm going to go with the FM at my place. I'm more of a weak signal guy. And I've got to put that. Let me reset. I've got to put a 30-foot tower up right behind the learnatorium to hold my VHF, UHF stuff. And it'll be some Roan 25G. I've got it laying around the house. But yeah, it's going to have all my VHF, UHF stuff on it. And our local club, where the club is located, because we actually have a clubhouse, we own property, it's kind of down in a hole. And not many people can hit the repeater. And so if I put a tower at each end of my garage and one taller than the other, I'll have the horizontal separation. And the big problem is the cavities, the cans. They put so much loss into it that you can hear the repeater, but people can't hear it because it uses a single antenna. Where if I can put it at my place and run separate transmit and receive antennas, I don't need any cans, and so any filters on it. So I've got to talk to the president and see what's going on there. And then they've got a 220 repeater that is all complete, but they can't use it. They don't have a place to put it up. And I'm going to see if I can buy it from them. And that way, I'd put the 2-meter and the 220 repeater in my garage and have a separate transmit and receive antenna on those things there. But that's next year. I can't even get to it this year. They still have I mean they've held their value. Well and And that but yeah In 94 when I was down in Haiti I had a an army Mars radio that the Mars guy let me let me use and it was the Paragon the only difference between the Paragon and the Five or the Omni six Omni five and six and six plus the the difference was the Paragon had The receiver was a general coverage receiver and what made the Omni so good for contesting is it was hand band only so they could put better filtering in it and Right now I've got a an icon 7300 which is an awesome radio. I love it But the one of the pot and it's one of the things they corrected with the newer 7300 mark 2 is it it only has one Coax input and you can't run a separate receive antenna and if you want to do anything on on 80 and 160 you you almost have to have a receive antenna of some sort and and the Omni has got the the Omni six and six plus has got the receive only antenna and It that that's why I wanted but when I was in Haiti I Did the 1994 worldwide CQ worldwide phone contest and I had the only station operational in the country and so the whole world was looking for me because I was the only one and I was logging with a notepad and a pencil. I still got that log and There are ten different places in that log Where I was making Four to five contacts a minute and You can't do that with a poor receiver and the filtering on that thing is just yeah Oh, no, if trust me trust me George if that Omni six is Operational for 500 bucks You know, I I don't know what you're paying for that dual band radio But I know new I can't buy that 500 Dual band or for 500 bucks and you had to get that HF radio for 500 bucks It's a no-brainer. Well, yeah, I jumped on Saturday. Oh, man. You know, H.G. Wells wrote about the time machine. I got to ride it. It was amazing. I just, you know, I was like 20 years old again. And more than that, I traveled back to the night before all the paratroopers jumped into France and Europe on D-Day because the plane that we flew in actually dropped jumpers into France and as it taxied up and we got into it and it took off and you know I was having all kinds of serious mental gymnastics about you know my predecessors but it was just it's hard to describe yesterday's video okay I got I had a helmet cam and it worked perfectly and the video starts from standing on the runway and having this 82 year old airplane come rumbling down the runway towards us turning around and we get on it and you know there was there were two it made two passes across the the lake it was a big lake and I was on I was on the second go-round so and the video stops when when the recovery team is dragging me up on the pontoon boat for an adult beverage but 23 minutes long just a little bit over that now let me reset real quick in addition to that the the people that put the event on there were two GoPros mounted on the wing right beside the door there were two cameras inside the airplane pointed forward one was forward one was at the door I really didn't have I don't have the skills and knowledge I haven't taken the time to figure out how to move things from my phone to the YouTube from the camera to the phone to the YouTube or whatever I can't do it on the computer at home and all the videos that the the the organizers did is available to me online so what I'm going to do is I'm when I get home it's not going to be right away I've got three clips three short clips one of the loading taken off second one is going out the door and the third one is the the nice ride down and if you want Daryl I still have your phone number right I'll send them I'll try and send them to you it seems to have a problem sending it to iPhone I don't know sometimes I'll give her a couple tries but I'll send you I'll send you my little clips but what what my plan is when I get home I'm going to use use some software that I'm myself how to use and I'm going to meld the two sources together and I'm going to start with you know us standing there and then once we get in the air I'm going to try and switch back and forth between their camera on the inside looking at me me looking at the door going out the door then the wing camera showing me coming out the door and it's probably could be a good 30 minutes long and I'll put that on YouTube and once on my Sheldon YouTube page but once I get all that put together I'll put a link up let everybody know and I'll probably have a link on my QR Zed page too but it's a gorgeous day perfect weather nobody got hurt 160 of us jumped I got to hang out with a bunch of old friends a bunch of new friends and I told my wife when I talked to her on Sunday after the jump I said I you know I have to apologize I I told you a lie but it wasn't an intentional lie because I told her I just want to go down and jump one more time and you know no no no no I'm going back the hero of the jump to me was the old green beret from Vietnam 82 years old and it was his tenth jump with these guys so yeah it uh it was well worth the time and money I'll be home today but uh but that's the story there I'll be around for one more go around uh but then I'm gonna have to stop and get gas and you know do the little little boys room thing but but there you go uh W2A That is absolutely awesome and I can't wait to see the video. You don't even understand. I mean, there's one thing to watch, you know, that stuff online, you know, there's lots of it there. But it's different to watch a video of someone you know actually doing it. And yeah, I just shot you a text anytime you have a link or if you want to try and send me those videos. Temple supports RCS now, we've only done that like for several months. It shouldn't be an issue, couldn't send videos these days, it's much easier. I can send longer videos to Andrew. Hopefully they go through, man. I'd really like to watch. At the bottom of the list, ladies and gentlemen, let's go ahead and make another call for check-ins. So I wait for directions from net control. I follow oral instructions pretty good. But yes, Josh, airplane's name is the TECO Bell, and yes, it did fly on D-Day. I didn't have time to check it out, but they tell me that on one side of the aircraft there's actually bullet holes that have been repaired in the in the fuselage but but yeah yeah yeah the Tico Bell dropped dropped some of the 82nd guys I think I'm not sure but yeah it flew D-Day and the organization is called Phantom Airborne Brigade they jump once a month down in Florida and once in the spring once in the fall they do a water jump for for old dudes so we don't have to worry about breaking our brittle bones and all of that so so yeah you heard right W2A"},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T13:54:03+00:00","id":90431,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":90430,"text":"Well, right now, I don't know what I've done. But yeah, I'm back at work and I'm just going to listen, but I'm going down Interstate 81 from home down towards Syracuse. I don't know what kind of weather I'm going to hit. It is liable to just appear out of nowhere, the radar was showing lake effect snow down between me and Syracuse and then all the way across Interstate 90 headed out towards Buffalo, but I'll be listening for a little while. It's been a while since I shared that link to the YouTube video from the Phantom Airborne guys. Anybody that wanted to watch it, I'm pretty sure they've had time. I'm just curious to see what everybody's comments are about the jump I did two weeks ago. I can tell you for me, all I have to do is watch the video now and I get all stoked back up. It was a great time and got home. There was some snow on the ground. I had to put away a few things I hadn't put away. But now the yard is all winterized. All the outside furniture is put away. Garden hoses put away. The little reflective stake thingies drove in the side of the driveway so that we can find the driveway when it snows and I know where to do the snow blowing. Headed out to Iowa but just curious what people's thoughts are on the video so I'll be listening. Take care and brother Bill, driving by yourself. Bless your heart as they say down south because I could never do the trainer thing, never. I couldn't trust going to sleep with somebody that didn't have a lot of experience. That would be my thing. I think doctors are the big expense themselves and they're increased value or perceived value. Charge me as much as a case of aspirin cost for two aspirin and I could buy ten boxes of Band-Aids for what they charge me on my bill for one Band-Aid. That's why it costs umpteen thousand dollars to go to the thing. They created the problem. When I say suck it up, buttock up, the government created the problem and it needs to be a total redo. And George also said I'm waiting to see what the other side, and to me, both sides are guilty because I'm a firm believer that people in Congress, Senate and the House, they should wear jackets like a NASCAR driver with all the symbols on it for the people that pay their campaign fees because both sides are getting big money from the insurance industry and it was a boon to the insurance industry. And so to say that the other side hasn't put anything forward, on Monday, Monday, the Republicans and I'm not, you know, I think they're both criminals, not R&D. They're all C, they're all criminals. On Monday, the Republicans did put up their proposal for a vote. Democrats voted it down 100%. And they need 60 votes. So they need like three Democrats and all that. So to say that the other side has put nothing forward is just false. And when I hear people like you, Daryl, talking about all the other countries and how good their system is, but then again I hear the same group of people talk about how long is the wait. Oh yeah, you get free healthcare, I'm going to say. I mean Peter, W-I-N, I mean we've heard him a couple of times checking in from the hospital. You know I've been waiting, I've been waiting, I've been waiting, I've been waiting. I have to wait. If I need something done through the VA, they scheduled my appointment 10 months from when I need to go now but there's not enough people and so to wait because there's not enough people and if the government's gonna run health care who's gonna pay the doctors and and it's just it the whole thing needs to be and I know it's gonna be painful but they need to scrap the system and and get out the government anytime they touch something it it messes up they they are our worst enemy not our best friend and the government here is supposed to be a little our Republican government which means it's from the bottom up not the top down and they have 13 things that the federal government is supposed to take care of it's delineated in the Constitution and they need to just focus on those 13 things and things like the Department of Education that's not one of them and if If you look at our educational statistics, they're an abject failure if their job is to make our children educated. It's a waste of time, it's a waste of money. And to throw something up about the only reason we went to Iran and the only reason we're in Venezuela is about oil. We have more oil in America, and if the environmental tree-hugging wackos would let us do our own resources to use what we have here in a responsible way, we could be a major exporter in the United States. But it's one of those things like, well, we don't want it done here. We'll let some other country, you know, do these bad environmental things, and it's just This is repeated. I think I don't think the arguments hold water I just don't and like I said, the government is our worst enemy not our best friend and You can't You can't take that let the government run everything because once they start running everything they're gonna run out of they're gonna run out of money and When they run out of money, all they do is print it then your value of money is devalued and it just yeah the whole government needs to fix everything is wrong and it just I you can't change my mind on it but yeah I'm in hard-headed on some things but there you go and hey whenever you watch it Darryl I guarantee you you'll love it it's right up your alley blazing saddles is that and the Blues brothers two of my all-time favorites but anyways I'll be listening but I got deal with some stuff here in the truck so anyways take care everybody and we'll catch you a little bit later W2A hope I didn't time out"},{"callsign_confidence":0.97,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T12:14:56+00:00","id":90108,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":90107,"text":"KV0MAI KM4QBC November Quebec November All Star Node 6222 Located in Shelton Washington Whiskey Echo 2 Alpha W2A"},{"callsign_confidence":0.8700000000000001,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T16:10:33+00:00","id":90876,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":90875,"text":"Not sure who that was there, but just stand by we're just calling on w e to a Pat you're up. This is repeater. Okay, girl. Yeah, I was ready to go back. You know, I heard that other Station coming this I thought I would let you do the neck control thing control the net but anyways, um Wednesday and Spent the night in Toledo, Ohio and headed towards, Cleveland Queensland. I had a little later start than normal because I had to get the truck and trailer inspected instead of just trailer so it took a little longer. No big problem. Everything passed. And first off, Brother Bill talked to my favorite mechanic or technician as they're called nowadays. And I gave him your choices of trucks and said, as a mechanic, If you had to pick one of these three, which one would you pick based upon your experience of working on these things eight, ten hours a day?\" He agreed with me. He said, out of your choices from the mechanical, reliability, and repairability side of it, he'd go with the Kenworth 680. I wanted to get that out there because I know Bill's listening. Daryl, last week you asked about movies. You said you downloaded Blazing Saddles. to hear your opinion about blaze and saddles. And then, you know, somebody made I can't, I think it was George talked about the Obamacare extension thing. I have no sympathy. That bill, the law, whatever you want to call it, was was written and passed by the Democrats. They put in the the sunset provisions. Anything that was wrong with that bill is their fault. should have done it right the first time so you know suck it up cupcake but I guess that's all mine I'll be here for at least one more kick Darryl but I'm really interested what did you think of Blazing Saddles W2A"},{"callsign_confidence":1.0,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-12-23T21:56:26+00:00","id":92066,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":92065,"text":"Yeah, they're definitely there, Gray.
