Thank you very much for the report. The reason for this is that in the past couple of days I have some strange problems with the 4G cell phone networks as well as internet connections and sometimes my latency is way off charge and it drops me off the net here and there so it's not very funny. WX-ray currently here in central Finland. We have a semi-cloudy wind is calm. It's almost 9pm here and we still have temperature plus 24 degrees Celsius. I'm not going to hold it very long. Thank you for taking me in. It was great to be here. Actually I visited shortly last Sunday but I was then at the callsign Oscar Hotel 6 Charlie X-ray. His callsign is 3 days old and a couple of days ago I just managed to start up the QR set and QR set CQ pages. There's nothing much yet but I'm getting there so this is brand new callsign never used anywhere. So VE5U0 on the net. It was great to be here. Very best 7 trees everybody everywhere from central Finland and I'm going to hand it back to net control and to you VE5U0 Oscar Hotel 2 Lima Papa X-ray 7 trees. Very good Yuka Oscar Hotel 2 Lima Papa X-ray from Victor Echo 5 uniform Oscar. By the way Yuka my name is Dave Delta Alpha Victor Echo. Many call me Steve as well. When I say my name not phonetically it does sound like Steve often so very good and thank you for joining us from central Finland and I'll just comment that there's very little or no noticeable jitter on your signal so probably not much of a latency issue at least not a variable latency issue so no drop packets solid connection here Yuka and thank you so much for joining us from central Finland and just to comment our temperatures are exactly the same and I am just before noon here so obviously it's very warm in central Finland this evening. We are typically quite a bit warmer than this at this time of year here as well but we are continental we're right in the middle of the North American continent so we don't have any in mitigating the large bodies of water for temperature and makes for fairly terrible winters. Thanks Yuka appreciate it and please join us again soon. I'm going to try and I know I'm on western Canada right now and I'm going to have to move elsewhere but I do love it when we have our overseas people join us here as well and there was one other one and I hope I got the call sign right Mike is zero Victor golf please correct me if I got your call sign incorrectly but please join the net now go ahead."},{"callsign_confidence":0.94,"confidence":null,"created_at":"2025-08-03T11:47:26+00:00","id":13841,"node_number":"oldsys","recording_id":13840,"text":" Yes, good morning, this is WA-78. Good morning to you and the group. I've been following along here for the last hour or so. It's been fascinating depth with a lot of interesting information. I'm almost 78 years old, so computers and I have had our own share of difficulties. I use them a lot at work, only because I'm forced to, but I do not have any computers working in my shack. I just usually do HFTX on CW and a little bit of Sideman. I guess there's a computer involved, but I'm looking up on my laptop, maybe logging a little bit. I'm currently using an iPhone here on Echo Link, so I suppose I am using some form of computerized transmission. But nothing really fancy. I've got a small shack at home in Minnesota. I've got a couple of small radios on a Walmart picnic table right now. So, back to the net, thank you very much for allowing me to put my two-stands up. This is Repeater Station 8-7, November Quebec November. All-Star Note 6222. That was the Alpha-7, Alpha Foxtrot Victor. Thank you, Richard, for joining the net today. I left it open at the beginning of the net for somebody to chime in and say, you know what, I don't use computers at all. No, that's not your case, of course. But, yeah, offering an HF station without a computer and maybe just doing paper logging, that's a thing. Plus, you've got to be a better CW operator because you actually cannot rely on log programs filling in call signs or going off to databases and things to fill in information during contests and things. So, you are forced to really know your code when you do that. So, good on you and thanks for joining the net, Richard. Appreciate it and please join us again in the future. I'm going to open it up. So, I've only got seven minutes left of the net here and great participation today. There are some great ideas from people and some super interesting things that people are doing and lots of enthusiasm for amateur radio. So, good on you all and thanks for joining the net. Open it up to anybody anywhere and see if we can fill up the last seven minutes of the net to net control. Victor Echo 5, Uniform Oscar, Dave in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Please join us now. As far as connecting with people and talking, I use hotspots, a clear zero, an open spot for, another one for DMR and the one I'm using now is Shark RF mic, which I enjoy using as well. But licensed in 95, my first purchase was a Radio Shack, 2 meter radio, second purchase, a computer and it's kind of been like that ever since. One thing I am curious about is if people are still using packet radio and APRS. Everybody has a computer but I wonder if those are still in use today, practical and popular. Back to you from VE5-Delta Tango. Yeah, very good David and thanks for your input. Appreciate that and I could offer my observations on packet radio and APRS. I know they are alive and well. I guess it really depends on where you go. I know there's some APRS gateways here in the city and a few stations that are using it. I'm not using APRS but there are several in town here that are. I think we have an APRS gateway at the university and a couple of others in town here as well. As for packet radio, packet bulletin boards and things like that aren't so popular at least here in my city. I know there's been some interesting developments in packet and I've forgotten the name of the protocol but it's a full duplex point to point packet system still leveraging notes software and AX25 and all that kind of stuff. It's a beautiful afternoon here in Kitchener, sunny and it's going to be 25 or 26 today. So it's really nice. Well, this summer, we had a lousy age for the summer, so that wasn't so great. But a couple of highlights for me. Field day was always fun and the Kitchener Waterloo Amateur Radio Club had a good event this year. It was well attended and we had a good time. But I think my highlight was maybe Friday morning. Was it Friday morning this week? I got up at 4 o'clock in the morning because that's what happens when you're my age. But I got up and I turned on the radio and I turned on FTA and was listening on 10 and 12 and 15 meters and it was like it ought to be where I worked Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, all over the place. So we'll be looking forward to that in the winter. And as Emil mentioned, I like to throw out my CQ on one of my favourite bands, Seventeen, and always interesting to see who comes back to my CQ. So that's what sort of turns my crank as they say. The E3 UJK in almost ready to snow tiny township. Back to you Dave. The E5 UO. Thank you very much. Very good John. And thanks for your check in today. It is great to chat with you again. It's been a while for sure. And I do see via your QRZ page here as well that you've got a two element quad on Seventeen. That must be interesting. I bet you that works fantastic. I hope to work you on the band sometime. I don't have any dedicated, I shouldn't say don't have any, I have a 30 metre wire. But I don't have any dedicated antennas for the other work bands. But I can load up some of the other antennas that are on the tower here and it seems to work okay. One of those things to do in retirement for me which will not be in the too distant future. Starting in the new year. So hopefully a little more time to play ham radio and do some antennas and things like that. More antennas, more homemade antennas. Thanks again John. Great to hear from you. And I'll move down the list to Victor Alpha 3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. Joel in Castleman, Ontario. Welcome to The Net. And Joel, what are you into in ham radio? What is exciting you about ham radio these days? Go ahead. This is Victor Alpha 3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. What fancies me currently on this great hobby? There's so many stuff that I do want to explore in this hobby. But currently and probably for this winter season it's going to be some home brew stuff. I'm going to be trying to home brew my own little antenna. It'll be a 2 meter tape yaggy. I think it's the first one on the list. And after that it'll be probably some transceiver, a little kit that I'll find somewhere. And I'll have a blast for this winter. And hopefully the warm weather is going to push me into doing other home brew stuff on the outdoor and bigger size. Back to Net. This was VA3 Whiskey Bravo Kilo. Connecting to Echolink VE4AWB. Connected. Alright. We're connected to a Manitoba Echolink station. That's awesome. Okay, thanks Joel. Appreciate that. And you got me thinking about building a QMX Plus, one of those QRP Labs kits possibly this winter as well. And looks to be a completely crazy functional QRP transceiver. Not as interested in the SSB side of things, but just as a code radio or digital radio. Okay, thanks Joel. Appreciate it. And yeah, have fun. Enjoy the winter projects. And we have warm weather to look forward to. It's about minus 10 here in Saskatoon right now. A little bit of healthy dose of snow on the ground already. But we'll be warming up tomorrow and it will melt off. It should be plus 9, plus 10 here tomorrow. Alright, more check-ins from Eastern Canada, Ontario and East.
